Who is Lorraine Midanik?
Lorraine Midanik was born in Toronto, raised in Los Angeles and lives in the Bay Area. After a career in academia, she became a playwright and studied with Anthony Clarvoe at Stagebridge in Oakland, California.
Lorraine’s recent productions include: RECALCULATING (The Grateful Deadly, Playland Productions, Exit Theatre, 2018); SHOCK VALUE (Playwrights’ Center of San Francisco Playoffs, Exit Theater, 2017), UP THE WALL ($wampland Voices, San Francisco Fringe Festival, Exit Theatre, 2017); RECIPROCITY (Unknown Players, Cafe Stories, Phoenix Theater, 2017); CYCLED (ReproRights, 3Girls Theatre, 2017); BENCHED (Playwrights’ Center of San Francisco Playoffs 2016); BOY IMAGINED (ReproRights, 3Girls Theatre, 2016); FREEDOM OF SPEECH (PianoFight’s Shortlived Festival, 2016); THE REVOLUTION (PianoFight’s Shortlived Festival, 2015); BRANDING (San Francisco Theatre Pub, 2015); and, SPARSE PUBIC HAIR (Playwrights’ Center of San Francisco’s Sheherezade’s Last Tales Festival – 2015 The Stuart Excellence in Bay Area Theater Award and TBA’s Award for Outstanding Production of An Anthology).
In July 2018, her full-length play JANUARY 23rd had a staged reading at the B8 Theatre in Concord, California, and in October 2018 Lorraine’s play entitled CYCLED will be produced again by ReproRights at the B8 Theatre. Her full-length play, ORDINARY DAY, is also being produced in October 2018 by Valley Players at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater.
Lorraine is a member of The Dramatists Guild; Playwrights’ Center of San Francisco, Theatre Bay Area (2015 ATLAS Playwright), and The International Centre for Women Playwrights.
